Nuclear power plant projects in developing countries are typically delayed by five or more years with respect to original commercial operation due to variety of technical, financial and political reason. This is not an isolated country problem; however similar difficulties are shared by several member states worldwide. Common issues can be identified and effective remedial measures can be initiated based on international best practices.

B K Bhasin is the former Executive Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India & former Station Director of Tarapur Atomic Power Station. He has more than 35 years of experience across plant commissioning, operations, safety, design , interaction with regulatory bodies, etc. In the past he has also held positions such as Chairman-Indian Association for Radiation Protection, Chairman- Indian Institute of Plant Engineers, Member – Safety Committee for Operating Reactors, Life Member – Indian Nuclear Society, and Chairman – Licensing Committee for Engineer Certification for Operations. Mr. Bhasin has engineering qualifications and has completed additional programs from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and on Operating Reactors from USA/India

S C Katiyar

S C Katiyar is the former Station Director of Tarapur Atomic Power Station and has more than 30 years of professional experience in the nuclear energy field. His expertise is in plant operations, maintenance, QA, safety, training, etc He was responsible for comprehensive planning and implementation of retro fitment of the Tarapur Atomic Power Station. Mr Katiyar has held positions such as Advisor Nuclear Power Corporation, Chairman NDT Society, Chairman Indian Atomic Radiation Protection, Chairman Indian Institute of Plant Engineers. He is certified to conduct peer reviews of international power plants and has performed the same for the Taiwan Nuclear Power Plant. Mr Katiyar has post graduate qualifications in engineering and has received extensive training globally.
